This has to stop now. The same ring tone that kept buzzing in her mind over and over again after each blow. It’s been seventeen years and two months of non-stop abuse from her spouse who happens to be the youth Pastor everyone was looking up to for guidance, wisdom, and counsel. They loved him. But the mask that was on behind the closed doors of his home was evil. It didnโ€™t reflect the character of his Creator. Christ. It was time for his secret sin to be uncovered. But she allowed the spirit of fear that her Father hadnโ€™t given her to supersede. She continued to conceal it with a smile and pride. But for how long?

Washing off the bloodstained kerchief that stuck to her swollen eye as she wept immensely in front the mirror, questioning herself she said, โ€œWhat have you done to deserve this? This isnโ€™t love. It’s all just a show! Where has my real husband gone? Where is he? Oh God! Help me! I canโ€™t do this anymore! I canโ€™t live a lie before you ANY LONGER! I hate deceiving myself for too long now! Please give us another chance to get it right! Please give me back my husband Lord! Please! Iโ€™m tiredddd!โ€ as she screamed from the top of her lungs slouching down at the side of the face basin holding unto her stomach. After an hour full of travail, she rested as her Father spoke to her. โ€œI can change your husbandโ€™s heart. Donโ€™t doubt what I can do. I love you just like that. Youโ€™ve suffered enough. Heโ€™s mine. Rest in me. I will deliver him.โ€ She woke up from the sleep her tears wheeled her into.

โ€œI will wait until his change comes. I believe you, Lord. I believeโ€ฆโ€ย  rising off the floor comforted. ย

MONDAY NIGHT @ 7:30PM, JUST BEFORE YOUTHโ€™S MINISTRY.

โ€œWait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen thy heart, wait I say on the Lord. Psalm twenty-seven verseeeeโ€ฆ fourteen?โ€ Hazel orbs blinked uncertainly.

โ€œYes, hun. You got it right! That was good. Keep it up. And remove all doubt from your heart okay.โ€ Giving her a kiss on the forehead as she blushed. The door of the office opened harshly with a deafening slam as the beast entered.

โ€œMiaโ€ฆwhere are my files for tonightโ€™s meeting?โ€ pausing in front of the desk.

โ€œDaddy!โ€

โ€œNot now Sophia. Please sit back down.โ€

โ€œWhy you so grumpy tonight? Thatโ€™s not you, Dad.โ€ She stared up at him in grave suspicion as she obeyed his command.

โ€œMiaโ€ฆthe files. Now!โ€

โ€œThey were right here on the desk today. I didnโ€™t move them at all. Iโ€™m not seeing them anywhere. This has never occurred before.โ€ As she searched for the papers frantically.

โ€œWoman, are you tryna take me for a fool or something?โ€

โ€œN-no. Iโ€™m not. I-,โ€

โ€œUnless you hid them yourself! Why you so delinquent?โ€ moving behind the desk; fist folded as he was about to fire the first punch, the image of his daughter appeared on the head of his wife as she cried. ย โ€œHurt her no more!โ€ As his eyes softened and his arms became awfully weak as they both fell down at his side; dropping to the ground he began weeping loudly.

Mia stood trembling in total shock as she watched her spouse repented of his sin before the Lord.

โ€œOh God! You are great! Thank you, Jesus!โ€ as Sophia run across to comfort her mother.

God revealed to him in that moment who he was also hitting beside his wife: His daughter as well. The Lordโ€™s heritage. His Fatherโ€™s child that was loaned to him. When we hurt one another we hurt God. Because we are all His children. We all belong to Him. The spouse saw the reflection of his sin against God and on finally recognizing it, he repented from his wickedness and was delivered. His home, marriage and most importantly, his relationship with Jesus Christ was restored.

Let us not hurt each other. Let us not hurt God. But love him forever in Jesus name. Amen. Blessings, peace & grace.

  1. Forgive me for disagreeing. I know that God is able to change people, but as a survivor of domestic violence, one who spent seven days in a hospital after a beating, it is dangerous to insinuate that women being abused should remain in the presence of these men until God changes them. We need to help them find a place of safety and peace, where they can pray and ask our Savior for help. And when evidence of change and especially some help with their anger and control issues occur, then if she wants to return and feels that that is God’s will for her life, then she can do so. As Christian women, we don’t have to advocate for divorce, as we put our trust in God’s loving care, but we also don’t leave our sisters in harm’s way. I am blessed to be alive, and I thank God for hearing my prayer for courage to say no to the violence, even though when I did I ended up in a hospital bed, but I was free. That’s how I know that God never leaves us or forsakes us.

  2. Been gone for long while. Returned to read the latest post of those who I follow. Thankful for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to write this story. It is real in someone’s life and heart. The blows of pain and destruction may not come by a powerful fist, but by the unloving, uncaring and ungodly words. Emotional abuse is real and it leaves one wondering with the question with no answer, where is my loving husband? Great piece of work. May it give hope to those in need to encourage to wait for the day of repentance. Yet, I also believe in being safe which may require to leave. I don’t encourage divorce, but I do encourage safety. Safety unfortunately
sometimes comes through walking away for good. Love you Sister in Christ. Sending a prayer for you. keep writing and posting.

    1. Hi Lydia! You crossed my mind not too long ago and I had prayed for you! How are you dearest? Missed you! ๐Ÿ™‚ glad to have you back! Amen!
All for His glory, not mines. Thank you a lot sis! Yes, I agree with you. Words do hurt and goes to the abyss of the soul. But to remove such wounds of pain we have to release in the Father arms, forgive, build safe boundaries from the toxicity and allow what He says about us to take root in our minds, hearts, souls & spirit in Jesus name. Amen! Yes I also agree with you where leaving/safety is concerned. Thank you for your encouraging comment & your prayers! God bless and strengthen you greatly in Jesus name! Byes! Much love sis! โค
